Free Party Games, Part 4: To Tell the Truth

Add Comment

If you’re familiar with the TV show To Tell the Truth, you know it’s about a few people who all say they are the same person. One really is that person; the rest are lying. The panel on the show must deduce who is the real person among the liars, and it’s usually pretty funny.

The party version is different, but still fun. I remember the first time I played it at a service camp I was attending while in junior high. It was shocking, funny, and a bonding experience all into one. I took that idea and often used it afterwards in leadership camps, parties, trips and other events, and it’s always proved to be at least interesting. Of course, you can spike the party version with a little bit of drinking if you like, but more on that later.

Pen and Paper Role Playing Games are great excuses to get together with friends for an evening and have some creative fun. At their best, they are dynamic and full of intriguing atmosphere. But not all RPG's are created equal. They all have their ups and downs, their strong points and their room for improvement. So, what actually makes a good RPG and is Green Ronin's Mutants and Masterminds one of them?

Free Party Games Part 3: Theme Charades

charadescharades

You remember charades, right? When you drew something out of a hat and had to act it out, using no sounds but only gestures? The entire game depended on your own acting skills—and if you sucked, like Sarah Jessica Parker did in The Family Stone, everybody hated your guts.

I remember charades being the most fun when they were themed. We always based ours on obscure things like historical people or band names, which can be hard to act out (exactly what do you do to get people to shout “Foghat!”?)

Hippy Chick Clothing Swap at The Farm

Add Comment

Community and harmony is very fashionable these days..Barely mid June at around 7:30pm, I am traipsing along a forest trail behind three new girlfriends I've made here at The Farm in Summertown, Tennessee. We have been bunking together at the Eco-Hostel for the last two weeks throughout our month long apprenticeship in Natural Building. We are on our way to a ladies' clothing swap at Caroline's house, where we will meet the other women of The Farm, the longest running American intentional community and ecovillage, to swap clothing and stories and songs, some fine dishes of food, wine and tequila.

Basic Rules to Blackjack – Don’t play if you don’t know how!

Add Comment

2121I get so tired of going out to the casino and sitting down to play a good round of blackjack when a fly by (someone who is not intending to stay and play, they just bet a round or two, which throws the whole table off) or a person with no clue how to play.

If you are going to play Blackjack, learn the basic rules.  First off you are always playing against the dealer, not against anyone at your table, in fact you want to help and support the people at your table, because one great move or one bad move can win or ruin the whole hand for everyone.

Hand and Foot

This is a great card game, especially for family (we play it whenever family is visiting or on the holidays). In our family it has been passed down from generation to generation.  My grandma was taught this card game in England and her relatives in Australia also play it.  Each family seems to change the rules slightly, but here are the rules and the way the game is played from what I know.

The object of the game is to collect as many points as possible and go out, leaving your opponent in their FOOT, stuck with negative points.  The person with the highest amount of points by the end of round 4 wins.
